With rising electricity prices and global warming, the bill could increase summer cooling this summer, taking a significant bite out of the family budget.
One way to reduce your cooling bill to ensure that you are not wasting energy by over-cooling your home while you're at home or while you're asleep. One strategy: turn the thermostat on your central air conditioning, to varying degrees before leaving for work and before bedtime, and convert it back when you get home or wake up .
The downside: this system is a bit cumbersome and relies solely on your memory. It also means you may wake up or come home to a house that’s warmer than you’d like.
Enter the programmable thermostat. Programmable thermostats automatically adjust temperature settings of your house so you do not have to. This allows you to save energy while you're away or sleeping and still maintain a comfortable temperature when you're home .
